AUGUST 2015 CAROL DOAK NEWSLETTER

IT'S AMAZING!

The quilt on the left is from my book Carol Doak`s Creative Combinations. When I designed this block, I knew it would offer several creative options such as the maze created in the center of the quilt and the border option with lots of color interaction.

I chose a fabric with crayons for the inner border to support the variety of colored strips. However any theme could be used in the inner border or centered in the middle of each block.

This is such a happy quilt and a perfect cuddle quilt no matter what your age. It also makes up very quickly with the two rectangular blocks making a 12" block. It also could feature different fabrics in the center for an eye spy quilt. As you can see the creative combinations are endless.

The Carol Doak Quilting Group

When I am writing my newsletter, I pop over to the Carol Doak Group to select some pictures of projects members have uploaded to share with the group. This Sail Boat quilt made by a group under the leadership of Speedqltr caught my eye. She used several blocks from the 300 Paper-Pieced Quilt Blocks book to make this fun quilt! Check out that book in the web store because it is way on sale this month!!!!! This book is a definite in every paper piecers library. The quilt on the right is called Tribal Breezes and was made by rokarraker. She did a super job featuring several of the star blocks from the 50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars book using neutral colors. I love the setting and how it turned out. That book is also on sale in the web store this month. If you want to print the blocks using the Companion Foundation Factory, then purchase the bundle of the book and the Companion Foundation Factory CD.

We have 9489 members in this group. When we reach 10,000 members, I will upload a special block for the group!! To join, just click on the link above. It is free!!!!

This and That...

Did you know that the quilt that is featured as the signature quilt for International Quilt Festival this year is based on the blocks in the 40 Bright & Bold Paper-Pieced Blocks? Unfortunately that book is out of print, but you can still purchase the Companion Foundation Factory for the 40 Bright & Bold Blocks in the web store.

Until next time, happy paper piecing!

Carol
