July 2010 Carol Doak Newsletter

I just received my flight information for the fabulous week-long trip to Ireland in October. The itinerary is varied and wonderful and I am so looking forward to joinging the group on this McCall's Quilting trip. We will be leaving for Dublin out of JFK on October 1 and returning on October 8. There is still time to join us. If you would like more information, visit, McCall's Quilting Adventures. I went with McCall's to New Zealand and I can attest to the fact that they really know how to put together a wonderful trip.

The Web Store

The long-awaited miniature quilt CDs are now available. There are four CDs and each CD contains the patterns, the cutting lists, the foundations and color photos for four miniature quilts. The advantage of these CDs are the ability to print the foundation sheets right from your computer. The files are pdf files so everyone can use them.

Set One contains the patterns for Miniature Amish Baskets, Mini Nosegays, Mini Mariner's Compass and Flower Trellis.

Set Two contains the patterns for Scrap Hearts, Jeweled Fans, Tree of Life Medallion and Scrap Stars

Set Three contains the patterns for Rain Bonnett Sue, Shade Trees, Simply Solids and My Little Town

Set Four contains the patterns for Country Baskets, Simply Spools, Spinning Stars and Log Cabin Garden.

Not only are these easy to use over and over again, but they are a great value, saving $15 over purchasing the four individual patterns.

FOUNDATION FACTORY CD UPDATE-

Technology moves so quickly and keeping up with the details is sometimes a challenge. I wanted to write about uploading the Foundation Factory CDs that are sold separately and the CDs that come in my books. These CDs will work with Vista and Windows 7. However,  what happens is the autorun problem won't work on some Vista and Windows 7 computers. You don't need an update to the program, you just need to run the setup program yourself. You can go to this link for info on how to install the products:

 Book of the Month

I decided to select the Simply Sensational 9-Patch Stars book as the book of the month for July and put it on sale. This book is hands down the favorite book for many members of the Carol Doak Yahoo Group because it is so versatile. Stop by my workshop and lecture offerings and look at the Sunset at Sea quilt that I teach. The foundations for this quilt are printed from the CD that are included in this book. Take advantage of the on sale price in July to add this book to your library.

Free Patterns

I have uploaded yet another free pattern in the Free Patterns section. This one is fun to make and finishes 12". Enjoy making this intricate pattern with sections that only have three pieces each. This Laced Star Variation was inspired by a question from the Carol Doak Yahoo Group.

The Carol Doak Yahoo Group

Oh my, what can I say. The group has been just amazing lately. They are wrapping up their final rounds of the Yours Truly Round Robins, have made 6,000 Member Celebration blocks, Four Year Anniversary Blocks and began the new Simply Radiant Block of the Month. The block at the left is the new July Block of the Month. If you want to see some gorgeous blocks and quilts, just stop on by and join. Click on the name above to visit the site.

On the Road Again

It has certainly been a busy travel time lately. I just returned from a fabulous trip to Burlington, Vermont for the Vermont Quilt Festival. I will be traveling to New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delware in July. You can always check out where I will be by visiting my teaching schedule. I hope to see some of you along the way.

All the best,

Carol
