April 2009 Newsletter From Carol Doak

I just returned from LaVeta, Colorado where I had the pleasure of taping a segment for the next season of The Quilt Show. The drive to LaVeta from Colorado Springs offered wonderful scenery.

It was such fun working with Ricky and Alex in front of a live audience. I demonstrated how to make the France block from the Mariner's Compass Stars book and then complete the Sunrise Quilt.

All went well and I look forward to seeing this show air in the Fall. Ricky even played a little piano tune to keep us on our toes.

Named Favorite Paper Piecing Teacher

I was so honored to have been named the Favorite Paper Piecing Teacher by the Reader's Choice Survey conducted recently by Quilter's Newsletter Magazine. I know that didn't happen without many votes of confidence by many readers. My sincere thank you to all her cast their votes.

The Web Store

They are back!!!!
I was actually away teaching when I received an email that a supplier had a supply of the Rotary Point Cutters available for sale. I ordered all of them on the spot so we are back in the clover with Rotary Point Cutters.

I have added this item back in the Web store and added the bundled item of the Rotary Point Cutter and spare blades. You will save when purchasing the bundled item.

I am working on a replacement for this cutter once the supply of handles run out. I do have quite a supply of the replacement blades so we are good on that front.

The Book of the Month

I was recently alerted to a wonderful blog by Zoey, http://zoeyquilts.blogspot.com/

Zoey had used this book to make table runners to create a beautiful table setting. As I read through her blog I saw so many wonderful projects made using the foundations in this book. Zoey wrote: "With the seemingly unlimited possibilities of mixing and matching, this is the most useful quilting book I have ever bought."

So in honor of all of Zoey's fabulous 9-Patch Star project, I have made this book (which comes with the CD to print the foundations), the April Book of the month and made it available at a reduce price for the month of April.

The Carol Doak Yahoo Group

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CarolDoakQuiltingGroup/

The group continues to stay active making March Blocks of the Month. This wonderful block was made by Mona of San Diego and tell me that Spring has sprung in her neck of the woods. it is so inspiring to see everyone's interpretation of the same block.

Several group members have also been active in a Fat 8th Block swaps and the pictures posted are fantastic.

If you would like to join in the fun, please come by and join in. There is no pressure, you can simply take in the eye candy or join in one of the activities.

New Updates in the Show and Tell Section

I've added a couple of new pictures in the Show and Tell section. It never ceases to amaze me how people embrace the designs and make them their own.

On The Road Again

My trips in March were simply the best, including a five-day seminar to teach the Royal Medallion Quilt. If you want to see all the fabulous quilts produced, just stop by my Blog.
I will be traveling to Shreveport, LA, Ankeny, Iowa and Huntsville, TX in April. I hope to meet some of you along the way.
Until next time,
All the best,
Carol
