June 2008 Carol Doak Newsletter
What a treat this spring has been with all the wonderful colors nature has to offer. It certainly offers lots of inspiration to make a colorful quilt.
Carol Doak Quilting Group on YahooThe May Block of the Month was popular this month with lots of different interpretations posted. Gloria from Moline, IL certainly captured the colors of spring in May Block of the month. We also hit the magic 3500 members last month so of course I needed to design a new block design to celebrate that milestone. Lots of members are making blocks and posting their interpretation of the block design offering lots of creative eye candy.
Since June was arriving this weekend, I uploaded the June Block of the Month yesterday and challenged our members to somewhat of a race offering 60 fat quarters of fabrics to the first person who posted a picture of the completed block. Amazing! Within hours there were five different interpretations of the June block. This block was made by Karol-Ann Hewgill. I love the drama she created with her lively colors.
The swaps and challenges continue to be popular among our members. I just posted the final round for the Yours Truly Round Robin this week, so I expect to see some spectacular quilts completed in the coming weeks.
And, June 3, is our two-year anniversary so of course I needed to design a special quilt for the members for this event. I expect to upload this new quilt soon. If you would like to join in the fun, please do. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CarolDoakQuiltingGroup/

New Miniature Paper-Pieced Patterns AddedI have continued to add new miniature paper-pieced quilt patterns to the web store from my out of print book, Easy Paper-Pieced Miniatures. The patterns come with all the step-by-step instructions and all the foundations are included to make the miniature quilt. All you need is your fabric and Add-An-Eighth ruler and you are ready to make these little cuties. Don't shy away from miniatures. They are actually really easy when paper pieced. There are now a total of eight different patterns available with more to come in the coming months.
Surprise Sale ItemsI do love surprises so I have continued to offer surprise sale items throughout the month so do stop back often.
Book of the Month
The book that I chose this month for the Book of the Month is the 40 Bright & Bold Paper-Pieced Quilt Blocks. This book is currently out of print and will be available here as long as my supply last. One of my favorite quilts is featured in this book. The Spinners quilt is made from just one simple square block yet produces three different star designs and a wonderful double wedding ring illusion. Take advantage of the really reduced price this month to add this book to your library.
New Free Pattern
I was inspired last month to create a new design and add it to the free patterns section of my web page. I hope the colorful options in this pattern will be fun for you to make this spring.
On The Road AgainDuring the month of June I will be teaching in the Seattle area and Colorado. I hope to meet some of you along the way. I was corresponding with a group in Florida today about a planned trip to the Tampa, FL area in February 2009. It appears that I have a couple of available days in that area around February 24, 25 and 26th. If you know of a group in the area that might be interested in booking a class and/or lecture and joining in on this trip with three other groups, please let me know.
All the best,
